Wraxall is a civil parish consisting of the two
hamlets Higher Wraxall (sometimes referred to as Upper Wraxall) and
Lower Wraxall. It is situated in a valley in the chalk hills of
the Dorset Downs, about 11 miles north-west of Dorchester. The origin of the name
Wraxall (a village name found throughout Wessex) is thought to be "a nook of land
frequented by buzzards". The estimated population in 2013 was 40.

Higher Wraxall is set in a valley of its own up in the hills; there are a
few cottages, a farm and Wraxall Manor House. This fine house was built in the early 17th century,
probably by William Lawrence.
